The Black Desert Online beta has come to an end with launch just a week away on March 3rd. Developers Daum Games are marking the occasion with a series of events, as well as filling the run-up with extra info from their teams about the first few months and beyond. Rewards for taking part include in-game items along with real-world t-shirts and statues. Naturally, every last one of them involves showing the game off on YouTube or elsewhere. I’ve yet to see the desert in Black Desert, but I’m pretty sure it has one. A desert, oceans, forests and mountains, Black Desert is by far the most extensive exploration MMO I’ve played so far. The detail and depth aren’t comparable to any I’ve played so far.

 

Every body part and even your hair can be adjusted manually either with a slider or by going right onto the character and dragging the part to meet whatever form that you desire. If you fail to find enjoyment in exploring what you can make your character then there are plenty of preset options for you to choose as well. The options are limitless for the creative mind, and simple enough for those trying to get into the game ASAP. You can make them look however you want, though, by tugging on body parts and fiddling with sliders. 

 

You stumble to your feet with amnesia in a small village woken by a black spirit leading you through a swift tutorial. It guides you into the world with quest lines leading you to camps, cities and towns which all contain unique people to talk to and gain knowledge from. Don't forget amin it is account wide so you can keep building it up with other characters and that when you purchase something say that took 100 it knocks it off and you have to build up again for a second item. Black Desert Online released to the eager crowd of MMO-purchasers yesterday, giving all who wanted it access to the game with its buy-once model.

Black Desert Online, the version of the gorgeous Korean MMO being developed for western audiences, kicked off its first closed beta today. It’ll be running until Tuesday, and I’ve already dipped in to take a look. I had hoped to play more than I actually have, but I ended up losing myself in the character creator, which is best I’ve ever seen in an MMO. 

 

It’s a sad fact that localization takes longer and longer as games grow larger, especially so with respects to MMOs. Black Desert Online launched in Korea in 2014 and its publisher Daum has been hard at work preparing the game for wider release since then. Japan and Russia came next, in part due to their friendliness to free-to-play MMO structures. Today is our turn. Black Desert Online has officially launched in both North America and Europe starting now.

 

As alluded to, Black Desert Online‘s western release delay is in part due to a reworking of gameplay towards a buy-to-play MMO. Similar in part to Guild Wars 2, players will pay an initial price and then have access to the entirety of Black Desert Online going forward with no subscription. The character creator is so extensive you can spend hours upon hours lost inside. It features the ability to customize every single part of your character. You can create the form of your eyes exactly as you want them and fill each eye with any color(s) available in the large pallet of options presented.
