EA Sports is preparing to release one of the biggest updates for EA Sports FC 26, introducing a World Cup-inspired football experience called The World’s Game Update. The free content update will begin rolling out on May 28, 2026, while the full tournament mode officially launches on June 4 for both EA Sports FC 26 and FC Mobile.

Although EA Sports no longer owns the official FIFA World Cup license, the developer is still delivering a large-scale international football mode designed to recreate the excitement of global tournament competition.

A New 48 Team Tournament Format
The biggest addition in the update is a new 48-team tournament mode, reflecting the structure of the upcoming real-world international competition.

Players will compete in a group stage consisting of three matches, with the top two teams from each group progressing to the knockout stage. The eight best third-place teams will also advance, creating a competitive Round of 32 format.

EA Sports confirmed that the game will feature 53 licensed national teams, including football giants such as Brazil, France, Argentina, and England, complete with authentic squads and kits. Smaller football nations like Cabo Verde and Uzbekistan will also be included.

However, some countries will have limited licensing. Nations such as Egypt and Japan will feature real players without full licensing, while teams like Iran, Iraq, Algeria, and Jordan will initially use generic kits and squads.

New Stadiums and Ultimate Team Rewards
The update will also introduce new stadiums, including Gillette Stadium and BMO Field, alongside a fictional arena called Central Maw, created specifically to deliver a major international football atmosphere.

For Ultimate Team, EA Sports is launching the Festival of Football campaign. Players who log into FC 26 between June 5 and July 24 will receive a free 93-rated Pelé card, while more than 100 new international player items will be added during the event.

EA will also introduce football legends Rivellino and Mario Kempes as new Icons later in June.
