You don't need me to tell you that the series has come a long way from the days of FIFA International Soccer, but while the progression shown in various areas of the title has made it the undisputed King of football video games, it has also taken us in some unexpected directions that have proven to be game changers. I think I'm safe in saying nobody saw Ultimate Team coming and look at the behemoth that has gone on to become over the last few years. The Xbox Gamescom has brought a huge raft of FIFA 17 news as launch day swiftly approaches with this week seeing the announcements of new stadiums and legends to use, but EA haven't stopped there. 

 

Worse still, cup competitions feel unimportant, and having a poorly done cut-scene of your players celebrating a generic cup with ticker-tape falling on them is just lame. Player Interactions- When a player comes to you asks for an improved contract you should be able to tell him to get lost. If some 55 rated 17 year old annoys you about playing time you should be able to tell him he's not good enough. These things could greatly improve the career mode experience. Along with telling current squad members they need to step up or they are playing well. Small stuff like this would add to the experience.

 

We're at the stage now where the majority of the basic features of a FIFA game are perfect, it's all about the fine tuning and luxuries those boffins at EA Sports give us now. These are honestly terrible in game now. They don't do anything and they are boring to participate in. But I'm thinking of a new freshened up mode where your manager comes onto screen and gets asked questions relating to the match and the opponents pre and post game. This would affect players morale and relationships with other managers. This would make an aggressive bout on the pitch.

 

As the years have gone on, the list of things us gamers have had to complain about the FIFA titles have dwindled as we've marvelled at the intricacies that have been given to us. After selecting all of your players, you choose a manager (again from a random five), and go on to a tournament against teams of escalating difficulty/ratings, going from one star to four. Comprising of four rounds in single-match knockout format, it’s a brief, yet intense competition that ultimately reaps different rewards depending on your progress through it. Or, in the case of my four-match win on pro difficulty, three silver packs. 

 

I was assured this was an error, though, and all rewards would be appropriate to your performance – as well as worth at least as much as your coin/points paid in to enter the mode. The emergence of Ultimate Team has seen it rapidly become the main mode on FIFA, with millions of gamers plugging into it every day for a football gaming fix, but pre-internet Career Mode was the king. Transfers are the most exciting part of career mode, but the implementation in FIFA 17 could still be improved upon. The fact you can swap a player for another player is always an enticing one, but you're never going to get Ronaldo for Phil Jones, even if you're still allowed to propose such a deal. In fact, generally speaking, the negotiation system needs to be more flexible, and in some case, more instantaneous.
